Our new pool is almost complete! How cold will the water be initially? The gas (heater) turns-on is 7-10 days after they fill it up. We are in Las Vegas, temperature’s will be in the 90’s…

aron: Run your faucet on cold for a few minutes and check the water temp. That will be your answer.
crista: then add 2-3 days for it to warm up from the sun.
helen: Well it’s pretty cold lol! Maybe I can get a solar cover to help it out…
aron: The sun will probably warm it as it’s filling, but yea, you’re gonna have to do something if you wanna go in right away
saul: You might want to wait about 30 days because of the acidity in the pool from the plaster.
helen: Pebbletec the same as plaster?
saul: yea I have pebbletec turtle bay…they say to wait about 30 days or so…you might want to ask
dawn: your water will warm up fast. we were in SC and filled the pool at hte end of april last year, by the time it was full, the water was almost 80! the sun will heat it up as it fills! enjoy, it is beautiful!!!
helen: That is good news!! We have a few friends from Chicago visiting 7 days later and I was hoping they would get to use it!
dawn: helen, we used ours right after we had the all clear. granted it was 76, but the air was 85 and it felt great! Good luck!
jeff: Yeah let it cure first, no heater. Without the heater in 90 degree weather, your pool water will most likely be around 65-70 degrees. Good for some swimmers, too cold for others. If you had dark color plaster, might be 5 degrees warmer. I’m in Riverside, CA and I’ve been heating my pool. But without the heater, it’s around 65-70 degrees (white plaster). In a pinch, if you have guests who want to swim, you could always throw a solar cover on it.
helen: I’m going to purchase a solar cover, I heard it will raise temperature 10-15 degrees. Think that will work in 5 days?
jeff: Yes, let it stay on for as long as possible. Should get it up to 80 or higher if the sun is out.
helen: jeff, so its ok to heat with solar cover but don’t turn on heater?
