Above ground pool deck 4×8 deck for 27’ pool

Author: - 24 March 2020 Category: Pool Deck

Decks built around above ground pools are no different from any other freestanding deck. They may not be attached to the pool for any stability. The pool is essentially just adjacent to the deck. For most above ground pools, these decks are somewhere between 3 and 6 feet above the ground and must be reinforced sideways from the beams to the bottom of the poles.

Cross-bracing in these regions and in both axes (north/south, east/west or similar) is necessary. At common pile heights, embedding piles in the foundation is not sufficient for lateral fixation.

New building regulations for decks around pools should also be considered. The maximum opening between the deck and pool edge is generally 3/4 inches. Slip resistance, gaps between boards and deck slope can also be regulated depending on local codes. These design requirements must also be considered for any deck adjacent pools or whirlpools, both in and above the ground.
