24 ft pool deck – Plans & Material List
Dig out holes and put up posts The first thing you can do in a DIY pool deck project is to clear the ground on which your future deck will be located. Remove all grass and about 5 cm of dirt where your construction site is located. For the posts we have used 4 x 4 lumber and we advise you not to use smaller lumber. First take four boards and set up the future appearance of your deck on the ground. Use them to mark the places for the posts and remove the boards.
Use a post hole digger to dig holes slightly larger than the posts. Make sure your holes are deep enough and below the frost line, at least 3.5 feet. Place the posts in the holes, align them and start filling the holes with stones. When you are halfway, use four larger stones and secure the post on each side. Then fill the rest of the hole with stones. You can also use concrete, but this method is also solid. Do not forget to protect the part of the post that goes into the ground with waterproof wood sealant, otherwise the posts will rot in the ground.
Making the frame of the DIY pool deck
After all contributions are available, it is time to start with the frame. For the beams and joists we used 2 x 6 boards and we advise you not to use smaller wood than this. Before you start with the frame, take four 2 x 4 pieces and use them to temporarily secure and align the corner posts. Once you have screwed in the beams, you will not need them anymore and you can remove them.
Your beams must be perfectly aligned and it is difficult to achieve this if both ends of the beam are loose. Use a small piece of wood and screw it temporarily to the posts below the selected height of the beam and place one end of the beam on top of it. This way you will only align one end of the beam and you will see that it is much easier to align the beam in this way. The three outer beams must be the same height and the one near the pool is 6 inches below. The main frame is now complete and you can now secure all the posts and place weed block and stone under your future deck.
